Heather – do you mean you saw them in meditation? Or in a dream or vision or something like that? I wasn’t sure if you meant as a symbol somewhere ‘out in the world’ or in your mind’s eye. As a symbol, an upside down yellow triangle is associated with the third chakra – the navel or solar plexus chakra. This chakra is related to our personal power, among other things. You can read more about the third chakra here.

Hi- I’m going through another layer of clearing out old stuff, and when I’m meditating on some of my beliefs, etc, I feel fear and/or grief. The physical sensation in my body is almost always a tingling/burning feeling in/on my third eye. Is there a link between fear, grief and the third eye, or is it my third eye trying to open even more. I am very aware of this physical sensation, as it’s pretty intense.
    Thanks!! Any info is appreciated.

Hi Molly, really we can feel any emotion in any part of our body, depending on what we are releasing. Although there are mappings of what chakra various emotions are usually linked to, that is just a general guide. Grief is usually felt more in the heart or navel, but I think the key thing here is what you are clearing out. You mentioned meditating on your beliefs, and certainly if that is part of what is shifting – your worldview and the foundations upon which it is built – that will be tied to your third eye. The structures are actually tied to the navel chakra (which is mental frameworks) but beliefs and anything related to faith will be connected to the third eye, and when you are going through a ‘sea change’ around those (as it feels like you are), you will definitely have shifting going on in your third eye.

The other thing about the third eye is that it is kind of like our ‘command central’ for all of our other chakras, so in that sense, there are shifts that occur there no matter what. As for fear, we can feel that in any chakra, as it is the ego’s anxiety that causes us to grip and self-block the natural light of any chakra. So when we are opening somewhere, some fear will naturally arise.

One more thing about the third eye – opening there often has to do with seeing things we didn’t see before, or even were blind to, and then pushing through to a new level of vision and seeing. In that sense, there is often grief for the old way of seeing, and fear about the new ‘view.’ It feels vast and unfamiliar and ungrounded. Eventually we grow into it…or it might be more accurate to say that we stop fighting it and relax into it.

So as always, simply being with what is arising, witnessing it and treating yourself with compassion as you process it, is key. When working with the third eye grounding is also always extra important, so rooting into your lower chakras as an anchor is helpful, and checking in with your body and lower chakras. Physical activity, especially yoga or tai chi or other mind-body modalities, or hiking in pure nature, may be particularly helpful to you right now, as it will help smooth the energy flow in your entire subtle body as it shifts, and ground you in your body.

Often activity in the third eye means the kundalini is getting ready to push through into the crown in a new way, and that is a beautiful experience. It can’t be pushed, only surrendered into. It is a kind of grace really:-)
Blessings to you on your journey.
