January in Review

February 3, 2009

I’ve decided to try a month-in-review post, idea and format courtesy of Mon at Holistic Mama, one of the blogs I visit. I’ve hesitated to do this before, because my blog is more of a resource/article one than a mothering/journal one, but here goes…

Summary

This month has been about trying to find a new balance, now that I’ve started writing for BellaOnline, and also wanting to write some more in-depth posts here. All three kids got sick and had a hard time shaking it, which is very rare, so that got me sensing my mind and energy has been too dispersed. Centering and pacing are my new focus.

Fun

Starting the New Year in my favorite place, exploring caves with the kids, watching the Inaugeration, seeing Gangaji – my spiritual port in a storm

Challenging
Sick kids, potty-training the twins, busy mind from too much internet time, struggling to find a still point

Thoughtful

Never thought I’d be returning to my roots in Buddhism this way, but I feel very driven to do so, so interested to see where it all leads. Also feeling very feminist on the spiritual front these days, so interested to see where that all goes.

An insight/thought

Indigo children theory – some interesting observations, but inflated by utopian ideals…too much pressure for this generation

Website/blog Find
Women of the Himalayas – bios of women teachers and leaders in Tibetan Tantric/Vajrayana Buddhism, mostly consorts

Words

“One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying.” Joan of Arc – before being burned to death by the Church at age 19

Note to Self

Heed my own advice

Favourite Tip/Idea from web

Oh I love the bathroom pic! lol

Hey, I think this worked well over here, what with the focus of your usual topics anyway.

“All three kids got sick and had a hard time shaking it, which is very rare, so that got me sensing my mind and energy has been too dispersed.”

Appreciated that you said this. Would like to read more about that – children, illness, our influence….

Thx! Yes, I really want to expand on the motherhood energy body stuff I started in the women’s energy body post, and how it impacts us, our kids, and our spirituality and health. I am trying to figure it all out right now myself. It all has to do with the second chakra, which goes through a big shift after having kids, and I think there is an energy line to them. I am finding it difficult to find resources on this that really ring true to me – a lot either glorifies motherhood spiritually and doesn’t want to address the energetic changes, or doesn’t address women with children at all. So I am feeling my way through this. Maybe I will post something this month and hope to get some feedback from other moms out there that will add to it…

This is a dear post, MM, I love your notion of the month in review. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all did this? How much clearer would we be? Wise? I think you have uncovered a very good thing here. And I am glad to find out about the Women of the Himalayas. Thank you for that! I hope your brood is feeling better now. 🙂

Hi there. Thought I should let you know I am now one of your followers on Twitter. I am also a total newbie there. Haven’t quite caught the bug of it like some of my friends but I am sure that will come.

Congratulations on writing for BellaOnline! I am a tad jealous but I will get there eventually. 🙂
