Wow, this is a great blog, lot’s of good information!
I really loved ur 2nd chakra series post.it gave me clarity to lot of my questions .
Few months back during second day of my periods I had severe back pain.
Pain was in base of spine area. I was lying in bed trying to take hot water bag treatment to give relief for pain. During the time of severe pain all of sudden I had some spiritual experience which is difficult to put in words. I was trying to practise forgiveness since long but couldn’t do that which at the time of spiritual experience I started forgiving one after other person whom I was holding on to what pain they had given me in past.
Forgives came naturally to me.
Since that experience I felt some connection of mensturation cycle and spirituality.
I started checking on net more information about it.i checked lot of Indian scriptures what they say about it. As in Indian culture when women r in periods r not allow cook and pray in temple……many more don’t s r there.
I wanted to know real reason behind it. I was eager to understand women and spirituality.
None gave me satisfactory answer except urs.
Reading ur 2 nd chakra series blogs gave me lot of clarity.especially ” 2nd chakra is doorway to ”
That must be reason what Indian rishis told women while mensturating not to cook ,may be to get more time for self development .
Possibility if women spend that time meditating or doing any spiritual practise can progress well. And being told Not to touch ,it means try not to come in crowd that may disturb her energy .
I am trying to understand this culture which is not practise widely any more .
Please write more about women and spirituality.
Angel, thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, many ancient teachings were in touch with this aspect of feminine spirituality, and the power both of the menstruation cycle, and of the second chakra as a special spiritual doorway. However, many of these teachings were lost or repressed over the last couple of thousands years, and are re-emerging now. While I do believe these restrictions on women during menstruation originally did arise out of a deep understanding of this time as an introspective, spiritual cycle, in later times it got misunderstood as because women were ‘impure’ or unclean during this time, causing many women to disconnect from the special and valuable insight available to them. I am glad you were able to connect with this for yourself.
In India and Tibet, I think the highest expression of these came through Tantra teachings. You can find some modern versions of these on my Women’s Energy Body Teachings Booklist. I teach teleseminars related to this ocassionally – I have just finished one, and will do more in 2013, so check back then if you are interested. Namaste-
Wow, what incredible resources. Thank you for this wealth of knowledge and information.
