About

Lisa EricksonMy name is Lisa Erickson, and I am a 42-year old mom to three, meditation teacher, and writer (mostly in that order, but it shifts from day to day.) I was raised Episcopalian but drawn to Buddhism while attending Sarah Lawrence College over twenty years ago, and have studied with both Vajrayana and Zen Buddhist teachers.  I eventually became interested in the mystic arms of all the world religions, and no longer affiliate myself solely with Buddhism, but it remains a primary interest, and I write about it weekly for BellaOnline.

Many of the posts here at Mommy Mystic are meant to be resource posts, to help people (especially women) find information on the meditation practices or spiritual paths best suited for them. Others are simply thoughts I have had on a particular topic. The main categories are Meditation, SpiritualityParenting, Book Reviews and Book Lists, and Women Mystics. Most of my posts are not personal in the traditional sense, although monthly I do publish a month-in-review post with updates on my family and life.

I also teach both secular and spiritual meditation classes in Southern California (or anywhere else if you want to fly me there:-) My secular classes are for stress management purposes, mostly for corporations and organizations, including Parent Education groups. My spiritual classes are non-denominational, or as I prefer to call it, ‘cross-denominational’. To learn more about them, go to www.TheMaatInstitute.com.

Although I teach both men and women, right now I am particularly focused on women’s spirituality, and on finding techniques that help real women to pursue authentic and powerful spiritual experience within the context of their busy lives. For more information on my approach to women’s spirituality, read this post.

    Hi there!

A Google Search served up your recommended reading list, and since I believe in connecting the dots of my life, I wanted to take the time to say thank you.

As my Mom used to say about my appetite “your eyes are bigger than your stomach” (oh, hell, my stomach has now caught up!), my appetite for a good Summer read is outweighing my time. It will all balance out…one day!

    Thanks again!

Hi. Just discovered Chopra’s wonderful book about Jesus and was reading your comment at Amazon. I appreciate your views.

I started my journey in northern california, in the Bay Area. Was raised in an academic home that was skeptical of “unconventional” wisdom. Have come a long way, thanks to God.

  13. Susan Cooke Says:

Hi Lisa – your recent blog about Fingerprints of God brought me to your site. The book looks very interesting, I will be sure to read it. I also found your site very informative and I am now following you on twitter. I would love for you to check out our new fertility program http://www.circlebloom.com. It leverages mind/body to help women with fertility issues. It also allows women to use their spirituality to help them through a very stressful time. I noticed you had a section on parenting, but not the journey of conception, something you might want to consider. Any help you can give on spreading the word about our new program would be appreciated!

    Best,

    Susan Cooke

  14. mommymystic Says:

Susan, the area you are covering is so valuable. I am past that stage myself, so I haven’t focused on it much here, but I know meditation has been shown to help with some fertility issues, and certainly self-care is so important during fertility treatments and pregnancy. I applaud your efforts, and good luck.

  15. Susan Cooke Says:

Thank you for the encouraging words!

  16. themelindachannel Says:

    Sending you healing energy,
